Sometimes I ask myself about creativity: does it only come from talented people, or can artistic things see the light by sheer accident?
In my first post I supported the work of a little girl who, despite her age, shows a very clear artistic vision.
I think there’s no doubt the less influenced you are by social conventions, the more you can play with your creativity and enjoy exploring your artistic side.
This time I’m going a little further, though, as I wonder whether creative things can be the results of pure chance.
If you think the answer is no, please consider the picture I placed above. It came out that exact way while I was trying to recover deleted files from my portable hard drive, perfectly knowing they were being overwritten. I had already saved that self-portrait, but the computer was so kind to also give me the pop art version of it. It turned out pretty creative, didn’t it?! I look forward to reading your thoughts and experiences on the matter π

accidents can create great results … so fun.Β
Yes! I love the way this accident turned out. Thank you for stopping by! π
Happy accidents can come out as creative. Β Although there is no creative process actually involved in it, the results can be unexpected and new, thus a creation.
You are right, Isabelle – of course it’s good to make a distinction between machines and people. There was no creative process… just a cool, creative output! π Have you ever had any happy accident like this?
Although it looks and could have been a piece of creative art i.e. created in e.g. photoshop it was an accident, which looks creative i.e. artistic – why not?! Accidents do happen and if they work out in one way or another – all is good! π
I definitely agree, Claudia! Looking for the right words to describe the results is not of the utmost importance – the only thing that matters is that sometimes accidents look quite good, and that can be so cool π Thank you for your comment!!
It sure did! What a “happy accident”. π
Yes Amarie, I really think it turned out pretty nice! Sometimes the computer surprises me π Thanks for stopping by!
Accidents can indeed make for a more creative outcome. I remember entering a drawing competition many years ago and spilling paint over it in a particular place and being really upset about it. I then tried to rescue it which gave me a completely different outcome than I would have had, had I not dropped that paint. I won that competition because of a delightful accident that added to my creativity. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, I really enjoyed your post this week.
